Need

In gas chromatography (GC), maintaining consistent sample injection pressure is critical to achieving precise, repeatable results. Variations in sample pressure or flow during injection can introduce error in calibration and measurement especially for trace-level and multi-component gas mixtures.

The Wasson-ECE Variable Pressure Sampler (VPS) solves this problem by actively controlling and equalizing sample and calibration gas pressures, ensuring that every sample is injected at a uniform, reproducible pressure. It also enables the creation of multi-point calibration curves from a single standard, reducing cost and improving method development efficiency.

Qualification

Developed by Wasson-ECE Instrumentation, a leader in custom analytical systems for Agilent Technologies GCs, the VPS builds on decades of expertise in chromatographic precision and process analysis. It was engineered to meet demanding laboratory and industrial QC needs where accurate gas quantification is paramount.

Differentiation
  1. Precision Pressure Control (25–2300 torr): Automatically adjusts sample pressure using a combination of inert gas and vacuum control, creating consistent injection conditions across varying sample types and pressures.
  2. Single-Standard Multipoint Calibration: Enables users to generate multiple calibration points from a single standard cylinder by varying the injection pressure—reducing the need for multiple calibration blends and simplifying QA/QC workflows.
  3. Seamless GC Integration: Fully compatible with Agilent 6890, 7890, and 8890 GC systems and controlled via ChemStation or OpenLab software using NI-DAQ communication. Designed for simple software setup and automation.

Topline Specifications
  • Pressure Range: 25 torr to 2300 torr
  • Pressure Accuracy: ±50 torr near ambient
  • Pressure Adjustment Method: Inert gas and external vacuum pump
